The Canvas Orientation (PLT-6007) is required to be completed before a student will have full access to their courses. It is very important to finish the Canvas Orientation before beginning your course work as you will only have view access (known as an Observer status). Please note that this orientation is different from the general New Student Orientation (TitanPreview).
An easy way to check the completion of the orientation is to click on the Courses button, and then the All Courses link. This page will show your list of courses and if you see Student under the Enrolled as column for your courses then you are all set. However, if you see Pending Orientation, the orientation has not been finished. This will affect the following:
- Submitting assignments
- Participating in discussions
- Taking exams and quizzes
- Your name displaying in the instructor’s gradebook
If you discover that the orientation needs to be completed, follow the steps below to ensure it is finished:
1. Access the Canvas Orientation by locating it on your Dashboard. You may see a PLT-6007 course. This can also be found by clicking the Courses button on the left, then click the All Courses link.
2. Review the orientation and complete each Module in order. Each page of a Module will contain information or a brief activity, and you can only proceed to the next Module when every item is finished.
3. In the final Module, take the Canvas Assessment quiz and earn a passing grade. Then, within this last module there will be a final page titled “Orientation Complete”. Click on the blue Finish Orientation button to complete the orientation.
4. You may then see a message that states that your status is being changed and that it can take a few minutes. At this point, you may try refreshing or logging back into your Canvas account. The Canvas Orientation should no longer be present on your account, but you should now have full access to your courses. Click the Courses button, then the All Courses link, and you should see that you are Enrolled as a Student for each one of your courses.
